BENRINNES 2013 WILSON & MORGAN 70CL 46%
€ 60,00 VAT includedThis Speyside malt fits the bill, with its fresh, easy, refined flavour palette that lets the spirit speak and show its purity. At the nose it’s very gentle: a bouquet of spring meadow flowers, a delicately fruity note (bananas, oranges, apricots), a whiff of vanilla. It’s fragrant and caressing as few whiskies are. At the palate it remains very delicate, but more assertive in the intensity of taste: an intricate tapestry of acacia honey, vanilla, lemon peel, ripe oranges and black cherries, but also a slightly fatter touch of beeswax and even a hint of tannins that might be mistaken for a whiff of smokiness. Only the aftertaste grows in peppery spiciness and intensity, yet still remaining honeyed and easy.

GLEN MORAY 2007 SHERRY FINISH OLOROSO WILSON & MORGAN 70CL 48%
€ 41,00 VAT includedThe delicate whisky from this distillery in Speyside, usually very light in body and known for its flowery and honeyed touch, has received an extra layer of fruity richness thanks to a finish of twenty months in second fill sherry casks. Only slightly winey, it has developed notes of ripe peaches, apricots, red apples, and it has reached a fine balance between malty and fruity sweetness, and the drier and spicier notes from the sherry. It still maintains a gentle mouthfeel, but with an unexpected blast of pepper in the end, and even a slight quizzical whiff of farmy aromas: damp pastures, leather, horse stables. Fragrant, very easy and caressing, but with a punchy twist.

GLENLOSSIE 2008 15 YO PX FINISH WILSON & MORGAN 70CL 52,8%
€ 110,00 VAT includedThe aroma of this Glenlossie 15 years old, as expected from a 12 months finish in Pedro Ximenez, is raisiny, with dried plums too. There is a touch of freshly cut wood, but also a totally unexpected estery note that seems to bring us to Jamaica! At the palate it has that deep, round, thick and chewy richness which, on the other hand, reminds us of some American whiskies: sweet, very aromatic, with notes of vanilla, mint and camphor. Some toffee and dark chocolate too. A totally crazy bottling… maybe a bit “deviant” compared to what you would expect from Scotland, but a lot of fun and pleasure!

GLENLOSSIE 2013 OLOROSO FINISH WILSON & MORGAN 70CL 46%
€ 63,00 VAT includedThe whisky from this elusive Speyside distillery is always a rarity, as it has almost never been released in official bottlings. The influence of a 2-years finish in first fill Oloroso butts is evident in the winey, slightly sour note at the nose… although the fat distillery style still shines through, adding a curiously buttery touch. The palate is dominated by a nutty note, especially almonds: at times it really tastes like marzipan cookies! It’s slightly raisiny, with dried apricots too. There’s a contrast between the overall austerity of the style, the tannins from the oak, and the honeyed background. The tannic and austere side wins in the end, with a finale that’s rather oaky, a bit herbal, and again with a hint of almondy bitterness.

LINKWOOD 14 YO 2009 SHERRY FINISH PX WILSON & MORGAN 70CL 50,5%
€ 99,00 VAT includedLinkwood rich and winey, but still very balanced in marrying the influence of the 16 months finish in first fill Pedro Ximenez. At the nose it’s quite markedly winey, with huge notes of sherry. Actually rather dry and nutty, which is surprising considering the sweetness of Pedro Ximenez! Of course there are also raisins, orange rinds, dried plums: the fruitiness balances the wine. At the palate, it shows a multifaceted style: the initial slightly tannic attack is soon followed by orange juice, vermouth, dried dates and raisins. It alternately dances between fruitier/sweeter and drier/spicier, and the addition of water can make the balance momentarily shift each way. The finale if very spicy, warm, and slightly astringent.

LINKWOOD 2014 SHERRY FINISH OLOROSO WILSON & MORGAN 70CL 48%
€ 63,00 VAT includedSunny, light-bodied, malty and very fragrant at the nose: it’s a flowery and fresh expression of Speyside that calls for springtime! But the finish in first fill Oloroso for 2 years gives it a twist at the palate, where it gains robustness and spice. It still remains light/medium bodied, fresh and agile, mineral and clean, with notes of orange juice and peel, peaches and apricots, but it starts to become peppery. With every sip, the spicy side begins to dominate, especially after a few seconds and in the aftertaste: no sweetness, it becomes dry, tight, even a bit astringent.
